The Anniversary Day of Dedication

INTROIT

Terribilis.  Genesis 28..

How dreadful is this place:
This is none other but the house of God,
And this is the gate of heaven:
And it shall be called the house of God.  (Alleluia, alleluia.)  §

(Psalm 84) O how amiable are thy dwellings, thou Lord of hosts:
My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord.
Glory be ...
As it was ...

The Prayer-Book COLLECT

O God, whom year by year we praise for the dedication of this Church: hear, we beseech thee, the prayers of thy people, and grant that whosoever shall worship before thee in this place, may obtain thy merciful aid and protection.  Through Jesus Christ our Lord [Who.]

If Another Collect for the Anniversary

COLLECT

O God, who yearly bringest us again unto the day of consecration of this thy holy temple, who dost likewise continually suffer us to draw near in safety unto thy holy mysteries: mercifully hear the prayers of us thy servants; and grant that whosoever entereth this house to ask thy blessing may rejoice in the obtaining of all that he desireth.  Through.

The Prayer-Book Epistle:

THE LESSON

I Peter 2.1 – 5

Dearly beloved: Laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

GRADUAL

This place is God's handiwork,
A mystery beyond all price, and beyond reproof.
O God before whose face standeth the choirs of Angels,
mercifully hear the prayers of thy srevants.
Alleluia.
Alleluia.
(Psalm 138) I will worship toward thy holy temple:
And praise thy name.
All:        Alleluia.

After Septuagesima, instead of the Alleluia, and verse following, is said:

TRACT

(Psalm 25) They that put their trust in the Lord shall be even as Mount Sion:
Which may not be removed but standeth fast for ever.
The hills stand about Jerusalem:
Even so standeth the Lord round about his people, from this time forth for evermore.

In Eastertide, instead of the Gradual, is said:

Alleluia.
Alleluia.
(Psalm 138) I will worship toward thy holy temple:
And praise thy name.  Alleluia.
The house of God is surely founded,
Stablished upon the rock.
All:        Alleluia.

The Prayer-Book Gospel:

THE GOSPEL

St. Matthew 21.12  – 16

At that time: Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read,  Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

[In religious houses and other places where Divine Office is said in its entirety, it should be noted that the Feast of Dedication uses the following Gospel.]

St. Luke 19.1  – 10

At that time: Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. And Jesus said unto him,  This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

After Septuagesima Alleluia at the end of the following Offertory is omitted, but otherwise it is said through the year.

OFFERTORY  I Chronicles 29

As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here: O Lord God of Israel keep this for ever in the heart of thy people (alleluia).

SECRET

O Lord, we beseech thee, mercifully hear our prayers: (that all we, who in this thy house do as on this day call to memory its dedication unto thee, may perfectly serve thee, both in body and soul:) that, like as we do here present our supplications unto thee, so we may by thee be enabled to attain unto the rewards of everlasting felicity.  Through.

COMMON PREFACE Which is said even in Lent: but not upon Feasts of our Lord for which there is a Proper Preface.

COMMUNION  St. Matthew 21

My house shall be called the the house of prayer, saith the Lord: therein whosoever asketh, shall receive: and he that seeketh shall find, and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened (alleluia).

POSTCOMMUNION

O God, who of elect and living stones dost fashion for thy divine Majesty an everlasting habitation: we beseech thee to assist the supplications of us thy people; that , like as thy Church increaseth in outward and visible habitations, so it may grow and prosper in all inward and spiritual advancement.  Through.
