INTROIT
Jutus ut palma. Psalm 92
The righteous shall flourish like a palm-tree:
And shall spread abroad like a cedar in Libanus:
Such as are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of the house of our God (Alleluia,
alleluia). §
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord:
And to sing praises unto thy Name, O Most Highest.
Glory be ...
As it was ...
Assist us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications which we make before
thee on the feast of blessed N., thy holy Confessor: that we who put not
our trust in our own righteousness, may be succoured by the prayers of him that
found favor in thy sight. Through.
THE LESSON
I Corinthians 4.9 – 14
Brethren: We are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to
men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we
are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honorable, but we are despised. Even unto
this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted,
and have no certain dwelling place; And labor, working with our own hands: being
reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: Being defamed, we intreat: we
are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto
this day. I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved
sons I warn you: in Christ Jesus our Lord.
GRADUAL
(Psalm 37) The mouth of the righteous is exercised in
wisdom:
And his tongue will be talking of judgement.
The law of his God is in his heart:
And his goings shall not slide.
Alleluia,
Alleluia.
(Psalm 112) Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord:
He hath great delight in his commandments. Alleluia.
After Septuagesima, instead of the Alleluia, and verse following,
is said:
TRACT
(Psalm 112) Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord:
He hath great delight in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
The generation of the faithful shall be blessed.
Riches and plenteousness shall be in his house:
And his righteousness endureth for ever.
In Eastertide, instead of the Gradual, is said:
ALLELUIA
Alleluia,
Alleluia.
(Psalm 112) Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord:
He hath great delight in his commandments. Alleluia.
(Hosea 14) The righteous shall grow as the lily:
And flourish for ever before the Lord. Alleluia.
THE GOSPEL
St. Luke 12.32 – 24
At that time: Jesus said unto his disciples: Fear not, little flock; for it
is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and
give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens
that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where
your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
OFFERTORY Psalm 21
The righteous shall rejoice in thy strength, O Lord: exceeding glad shall he
be of thy salvation: thou hast given him his heart's desire. (Alleluia.)

receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life (alleluia).

LESSON
Philippians 3.7 - 12
Brethren: What things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea
doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge
of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do
count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine
own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of
Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the
power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made
conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection
of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect:
but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended
of Christ Jesus.
GOSPEL
St. Luke 19.12 - 26
At that time: Jesus spake this parable unto his disciples: A certain nobleman
went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he
called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them,
Occupy till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after
him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. And it came to pass,
that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these
servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might
know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first,
saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. And he said unto him, Well, thou
good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou
authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath
gained five pounds. And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept
laid up in a napkin: For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou
takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. And
he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked
servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down,
and reaping that I did not sow: Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the
bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? And he said
unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath
ten pounds. And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds. For I say unto
you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not,
even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
