THE LESSON
I Peter 1.3 – 7
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to
his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection
of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and
undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are
kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in
the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be,
ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith,
being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with
fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus
Christ our Lord.
ALLELUIA
Alleluia.
Alleluia.
Thy Saints, O Lord, shall flourish like the lily:
And shall be even as the odor of balsam before thee, alleluia.
(Psalm 116) Right dear in the sight of the Lord is the death of
his Saints.
Alleluia.
THE GOSPEL
St. John 15.5 – 7
At that time: As Jesus said unto his disciples: I am the true vine, and my
Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit
he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may
bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I
have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch
cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except
ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth
in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can
do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch,
and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are
burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask
what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
OFFERTORY Psalm 32
Be glad, O ye righteous, and rejoice in the Lord: and be joyful all ye that
are true of heart, alleluia, alleluia.

to be thankful, alleluia.

ANOTHER LESSON AND GOSPEL for the Common of several Martyrs in Eastertide
LESSON
Revelation 19.1 – 9
At that time: After these things I heard a great voice of much people in
heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto the
Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the
great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged
the blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia. And her
smoke rose up for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders and the four
beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen;
Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all
ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it
were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the
voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent
reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of
the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted
that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is
the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they
which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.
GOSPEL
St. John 16.20 – 22
At that time: Jesus said unto his disciples: Verily, verily, I say unto you,
That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be
sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in
travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered
of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born
into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and
your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
