THE LESSON

Wisdom 10.17 – 20

God rendered to the righteous a reward of their labours, guided them in a marvellous way, and was unto them for a cover by day, and a light of stars in the night season;  Brought them through the Red sea, and led them through much water:  But she drowned their enemies, and cast them up out of the bottom of the deep.  Therefore the righteous spoiled the ungodly, and praised thy holy name, O Lord, and magnified with one accord thine hand, that fought for them, O Lord our God..

THE EPISTLE

Romans 5.1  – 5

Brethren: being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:   By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.   And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;   And patience, experience; and experience, hope:   And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

THE EPISTLE

Romans 8.18  – 23

Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.  For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.   For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,  Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.   And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

THE EPISTLE

II Corinthians 6.4  – 10

Brethren: Let us in all things approve ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,   In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;   By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,   By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,   By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;   As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;   As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

THE EPISTLE

Hebrews 11.33  – 39

Brethren: Through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,   Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.   Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:   And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:   They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;   (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.   And these all, having obtained a good report through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.

THE EPISTLE

Revelation 7.13  – 17

In those days: One of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?   And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.   Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.   They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.   For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

THE GOSPEL

St Matthew  5.1 – 12a

At that time: Jesus, seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:   And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.   Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.   Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.   Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.   Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.   Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.   Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.   Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.   Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.   Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven.

THE GOSPEL

St Matthew  11.25 – 30

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.   Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.   All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.   Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.   Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.   For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

THE GOSPEL

St Luke  10.16 – 20

At that time Jesus said unto his disciples: He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.  And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.   And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.   Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.   Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

THE GOSPEL

St Luke  12.1 – 8

At that time Jesus said unto his disciples: Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.   For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.   Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.   And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.   But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.   Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?   But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.   Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
