INTROIT
Laetabitur justus. Psalm 64.
The righteous shall rejoice in the Lord, and put his trust
in him:
And all they that are true of heart shall be glad. §
Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer:
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Glory be ...
As it was ...
Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God: that by the prayers of thy holy Martyr
blessed N. we may be delivered from all adversities which may happen to
the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE LESSON
II Timothy 2.8 – 10, 3.10 – 12
Dearly beloved: Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised
from the dead according to my gospel: Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil
doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. Therefore I
endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation
which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. But thou hast fully known my
doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra;
what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
GRADUAL
(Psalm 37) Though the righteous fall he shall not be cast
away:
For the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.
The righteous is ever merciful and lendeth:
And his seed is blessed.
Alleluia.
Alleluia.
(St. John 8) He that followeth me: shall not walk in darkness,
But shall have the light of everlasting life.
All: Alleluia.
After Septuagesima, instead of the Alleluia, and
verse following, is said:
TRACT
(Psalm 112) Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord:
He hath great delight in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
The generation of the faithful shall be blessed.
Riches and plenteousness shall be in his house:
And his righteousness shall endure for ever.
THE GOSPEL
St. Matthew 10.26 – 32
At that time: Jesus unto his disciples: There is nothing covered, that
shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell
you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that
preach ye upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body,
but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy
both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a
farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your
Father. But the very hairs of your head are all
numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many
sparrows. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will
I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
After Septuagesima Alleluia at the end of the
following Offertory is omitted, but otherwise it is said through the year.
OFFERTORY Psalm 21
Thou hast set a crown of pure gold upon his head, O Lord: he asked life of
thee, and thou gavest him a long life, (alleluia).
SECRET
Grant, O Lord, that this our bounden service may be acceptable in thy sight:
that these our oblations may, by the prayers of him on whose feast they are
offered, be made profitable unto us for our salvation. Through.
COMMUNION St. John 12
If any man serve me, let him follow me: and where I am, there shall also my
servant be.
POSTCOMMUNION
Grant, we beseech thee, O Lord our God: that like as we, whom thou hast made
partakers of thy heavenly food, do offer unto thee our outward worship; so by
the intercession of blessed N. thy Martyr, we may inwardly be profited
thereby to our salvation. Through.
