Sacerdotes Dei.  Song of the Three Children.

O ye priests of the Lord, bless ye the Lord:
O ye holy and humble men of heart bless ye the Lord.  §

O all ye works of the Lord, bless ye the Lord:
Praise him and magnify him for ever.
Glory be ...
As it was ...

COLLECT

O God, who makest us glad with the yearly festival of blessed N. thy Martyr and Bishop: mercifully grant that, as we now observe his heavenly birthday; so we may likewise rejoice in his protection.  Through.

THE LESSON

II Corinthians 1.3 – 7

Brethren: Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;  Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.  For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.  And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.   And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

GRADUAL

(Psalm 8) Thou hast crowned him with glory and worship.
Thou hast made him to have dominion of the works of thy hands, O Lord.
Alleluia.
Alleluia.
This is a priest whom the Lord hath crowned.
Alleluia.

After Septuagesima, instead of the Alleluia, and verse following, is said:

TRACT

(Psalm 112) Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord:
He hath great delight in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
The generation of the faithful shall be blessed.
Riches and plenteousness shall be in his house:
And his righteousness endureth for ever.

THE GOSPEL

St. Matthew 16.24 – 27

At that time: Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?  For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

OFFERTORY  Psalm 89

I have found David my servant, with my holy oil have I anointed him: my hand shall hold him fast and my arm shall strengthen him.

SECRET

Sanctify, O Lord, we beseech thee, these our problems: and at the intercession of blessed N. thy Martyr and Bishop look down in mercy upon us who here present them unto thee.  Through.

COMMUNION  Psalm 21

Thou hast set a crown of pure gold upon his head, O Lord.

POSTCOMMUNION

Grant, we beseech thee, O Lord our God: that like as we whom thou hast made partakers of thy heavenly food do offer unto thee our outward worship; so, by the intercession of blessed N. thy Martyr and Bishop, we may inwardly be profited thereby to our salvation.  Through.
