THE EPISTLE

I Corinthians 11.23 – 29

Brethren: I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:  And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.  For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

GRADUAL

Priest:  (Psalm 145) The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord:
People: And thou givest them their meat in due season.
Priest: Thou openest thine hand:
People And fillest all things living with plenteousness.

ALLELUIA

Priest: Alleluia.
People Alleluia.
Priest: (St. John 6) My Flesh is meat indeed, and my Blood is drink indeed:
People: He that eateth my Flesh and drinketh my Blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

In Votive Masses is added
All:      Alleluia.

In Votive Masses after Septuagesmia, instead of the Alleluia, and verse following, is said:

TRACT

Priest:  (Makachi 1) From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same
People: My Name shall be great among the Gentiles.
Priest: And in every place incense shall be offered unto my Name, and a Pure Offering:
People  For my Name shall be great among the heathen.
Priest:  (Proverbs 9) Come, eat of my bread
People: And drink of the wine which I have mingled.

In Votive Masses, in Eastertide, instead of the Gradual is said:

ALLELUIA

Priest: Alleluia.
People Alleluia.
Priest:  (St. Luke 24) The Lord Jesus was made known unto his disciples
People: In the Breaking of of Bread, alleluia.
Priest: (St. John 6) My Flesh is meat indeed, and my Blood is drink indeed:
People: He that eateth my Flesh and drinketh my Blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
All:      Alleluia.

SEQUENCE

Lauda Sion Salvatorem  To be omitted in Votive Masses.

Priest:  Laud, O Sion, thy Salvation, laud with hymns of exultation Christ, thy King and Shepherd true:
People: Spend thyself, his honour raising, who surpasseth all thy praising; never canst thou reach his due.
Priest: Sing today, the mystery shewing of the living, life-bestowing Bread from heaven before thee set;
People  E'en the same of old provided, where the Twelve, divinely guided, at the holy Table met.
Priest:  Full and clear ring out thy chanting, joy nor sweetest grace be wanting to thy heart and soul today;
People: When we gather up the measure of that Supper and its treasure, keeping feast in glad array.
Priest:  Lo, the new King's Table gracing, this new Passover of blessing hath fulfilled the elder rite:
People: Now the new the old effaceth, truth revealed the shadow chaseth, day is breaking on the night.
Priest: What he did at Supper seated, Christ ordained to be repeated, his memorial ne'er to cease:
People  And, hsi word for guidance taking, bread and wine we hallow, making thus our Sacrifice of peace.
Priest:  This the truth to Christians given -- bread becomes his Flesh fromheaven, wine becomes his holy Blood.
People: Doth it pass thy comprehending?  Yet by faith, thy sight transcending, wondrous things are understood.
Priest:  Yea, beneath these signs are hidden glorious things to sight forbidden: look not on the outward sign.
People: Wine is poured and Bread is broken, but in either sacred token Christ is here by power divine.
Priest: Whoso of this Food partaketh, rendeth not the Lord nor breaketh: Christ is whole to all that taste.
People  Thousands are, as one, receivers; one, as thousands of believers, takes the Food that cannot waste.
Priest:  Good and evil men are sharing one repast, a doom preparing varied as the heart of man;
People: Doom of life or death awarded, as their days shall be recorded which from one beginning ran.
Priest:  When the Sacrament is broken, doubt not in each severed token, hallowed by the word once spoken, resteth all the true content:
People: Nought the precious Gift divideth, breaking but the sign betideth, he himself the same abideth, nothing of his fullness spent.
Priest: Lo! the Angels' Food is given to the pilgrim who hath striven; see the children's Bread from heaven, which to dogs may not be cast;
People  Truth the ancient types fulfilling; Isaac bound, a victim willing; Paschal lamb, its life-bolld spilling; Manna sent in ages past.
Priest:  O true Bread, good Shepherd, tend us, Jesu of thy love befriend us, thou refresh us, thou defend us, thine eternal goodness send us in the land of life to see;
People: Thou wh0 all things canst and knowest, who on earth such Food bestowest, grant us with thy Saints, though lowest, where thy heavenly Feast thou shewest, fellow-heirs and guests to be.
All        Amen.  Alleluia.

THE GOSPEL

St. John 6.55 – 58

At that time: Jesus said unto the multitude of the Jews: My flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.  He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.  As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.  This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

The Creed is said.

OFFERTORY  Leviticus 21
