ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Double of I Class with common Octave (Solemnity in the current Kalendar)

INTROIT.  Gaudeamus.

Rejoice we all in the Lord, keeping holy-day in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary : in whose Assumption the Angels rejoice and glorify the Son of God.  §  Ps. 45.  My heart is inditing of a good matter : I speak of the things which I have made unto the king.

Glory be....

(Repeat to §.)

COLLECT.

We beseech thêe, O Lord; mercifully to forgive the sins of thy peoplê; that we, who of ourselves can do nothing that is acceptable unto thee, may be succoured by the intercession of the Mother of thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  Who with thee, O Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth God, world without end.  Amen.

Ecclus. 24.7-15

IN THOSE DAYS : Among all these I sought a resting place; I sought in whose territory I might lodge.  "Then the Creator of all things gave me a commandment, and the one who created me assigned a place for my tent. And he said, `Make your dwelling in Jacob, and in Israel receive your inheritance.'  From eternity, in the beginning, he created me, and for eternity I shall not cease to exist. In the holy tabernacle I ministered before him, and so I was established in Zion. In the beloved city likewise he gave me a resting place, and in Jerusalem was my dominion. So I took root in an honored people, in the portion of the Lord, who is their inheritance. "I grew tall like a cedar in Lebanon, and like a cypress on the heights of Hermon. I grew tall like a palm tree in Engedi, and like rose plants in Jericho; like a beautiful olive tree in the field, and like a plane tree I grew tall. Like cassia and camel's thorn I gave forth the aroma of spices, and like choice myrrh I spread a pleasant odor, like galbanum, onycha, and stacte, and like the fragrance of frankincense in the tabernacle.

GRADUAL.  (Psalm 45) Because of the word of truth, of meekness, and righteousness : and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
Hearken, O daughter, and consider, incline thine ear : so shall the king have pleasure in thy beauty.

Alleluia, alleluia.
Mary is taken up into heaven : the company of the Angels is joyful.  Alleluia.

Luke 10.38-42

AT that time: [Jesus] entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her."   The Creed is said.

OFFERTORY.  Mary is taken up into heaven : the Angels rejoice and glorify the Lord, alleluia.

SECRET.

We pray thee, O Lord, that the prayers of the Mother of God may avail for the succour of thy people : that we, who do acknowledge her to have departed this life by reason of the condition of our mortal frailty, may feel the effectual succour of the intercession which she offereth unto thee in thy heavenly glory.  Through the same Christ our Lord.  Amen.

PREFACE of our Lady, And that on the Assumption, which is said throughout the Octave in all Masses which do not require a different Preface, in accordance with the Rubrics.

COMMUNION.  Luke 10.  Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall never be taken away from her.

POSTCOMMUNION.

O Lord, who hast vouchsafed to make us partakers of thy heavênly banquet : we humbly beseech thêe; that we who here observe the Assumption of the Mother of God, may by her intercession be delivered from all the evils that beset us.   Through the same Christ our Lord.  Amen.
